The 92-run partnership between Abhishek and Samson the highest-ever powerplay score in the history of T20 World Cups.

India cricket team have gotten off to an explosive start in the T20 World Cup 2026 final, with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma powering the co-hosts to 92 runs at the end of the powerplay. Breaking free from the shackles of poor form, the Indian opener reached his half-century in just 18 deliveries. His partner, meanwhile, also managed to get off to a flying start, crossing the 30-run mark within the first 6 overs.

The 92-run partnership between Abhishek and Samson the highest-ever powerplay score in the history of T20 World Cups. The previous best was 92/1 by West Indies against Afghanistan at Bridgetown in 2024.

New Zealand bowled 8 wides in the powerplay of the T20 World Cup 2026 final in Ahmedabad on Sunday, the most by a full nation side in the history of the tournament. Meanwhile, India also registered their highest opening partnership in the tournament, thanks to the 92-run stand between Samson and Abhishek.

Abhishek was eventually dismissed by Rachin Ravindra for 52 runs, brining an end to his opening partnership of 98 runs with Samson. Burying the ghosts of recent past, Sharma also registered the fastest half-century in the ongoing T20 World Cup, taking just 18 deliveries to reach the landmark. India were 12/0 after the first two overs but managed to add 80 runs in the next 4 overs to post a mammoth 92/0 total at the end of the powerplay. New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first in the T20 World Cup final in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
