The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has added two former Pakistan captains, Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed, to their men’s national selection committee.
After Pakistan’s ouster from the T20 World Cup 2026, selector Aleem Dar had resigned. The former umpire didn’t agree with other selectors, Aaqib Javed and Asad Shafiq. Dar felt Babar Azam and Shadab Khan didn’t warrant a spot in the squad but were picked anyway. Dar also felt Mohammad Rizwan should’ve been the main wicketkeeper over Usman Khan.
PCB shake things up again
According to GeoSuper, Dar and Aaqib didn’t see eye to eye. The latter sided with Pakistan’s head coach, Mike Hesson, who wanted Babar and Shadab in the side. Hesson felt Babar would be needed in spin-friendly conditions in Sri Lanka and backed Shadab, having worked with him at Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League.
Dar’s stint as selector was short. He was appointed in October and left just 3 days ago. The PCB didn’t waste any time in finding replacements for him. Misbah has worked as Pakistan’s head coach and chief selector. He was also part of the PCB cricket technical committee.
As for Sarfaraz, he has been working as a mentor of the Pakistan Shaheens and Under-19 teams since November 2025. As recently as yesterday, Sarfaraz was rumoured to be taking over as Pakistan’s Test coach. Will he assume the roles of selector and coach together? We’ll know soon.
It’s safe to assume that Misbah and Sarfaraz were involved in the decision-making for the squad for the Bangladesh ODI series.
