T20 World Cup: Rinku Singh had headed back home to perform the last rites of his father, who passed away on Thursday.

Only hours after performing the last rites of his father, India cricketer Rinku Singh is all set to rejoin the team in Kolkata, as per a report in The New Indian Express. The India batter had gone back to Aligarh; will be now ready to face West Indies on Sunday, for team’s last super 8 contest.

Rinku’s father was suffering from liver cancer and was undergoing treatment in Noida, passed away on Thursday. “He flew to Delhi and travelled to Aligarh via road to attend the last rites of his father,” a source told NIE. “A lot of people were present at the crematorium. Rinku along with his four brothers was there as they all performed the last rites,” added the source.

One of Rinku’s brother confirmed that the southpaw batter had left to join the team. “Yes he came here for the father’s last rites. He has left to join the team in Kolkata.” Meanwhile, the encounter vs West Indies is most crucial for Team India, in order to make the semis.

In case of a loss, India will be out of the T20 World Cup. Zimbabwe has already been eliminated. As far as Rinku’s own performance in the tournament is concerned, he has only scored 24 runs in 5 matches. In a few matches, he has been made to bat at no.8, which is too low for a specialist batter.

India full squad: Suryakumar Yadav (c), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Rinku Singh.
