An India vs Pakistan semi-final clash in the T20 World Cup 2026 is off the cards following the latter’s loss to England in the Super 8 on Tuesday. Harry Brook’s century helped England clinch their second win of the Super 8 and qualify for the semis while seriously denting Pakistan’s chances of making to to the top four. India, who faced Pakistan just once in the tournament in the group stage, won’t possibly play Pakistan again, unless the two sides meet in the T20 WC final.
No IND vs PAK in T20 World Cup semis
As per the tournament’s format, the winners of Group 1 will take on the runners-up of Group 2 in the first semi-final. The winner of Group 2 and the runner-up from Group 1 will take part in the other semi-final. England have finished on top of Group 2 and have qualified for the semi-final. Pakistan have just one point to their name so far, which came after the game against New Zealand was washed out. Now, Pakistan has just one more game left in the Super 8 stage and a win can at the best take them to three points and second on the points table, which means they can finish as runner-up.
Meanwhile, India on the other hand, are third on the table in Group 1, with SA and WI ahead of them with a win each so far in the Super 8. India will have to beat ZIM and WI in their next two matches in order to fancy a chance of making it to the semi-final. However, their negative net run-rate of -3.800 could severely impact Suryakumar Yadav and co’s chances.
India is primed to finish at the second spot if they manage to beat both Zimbabwe and West Indies. Therefore, a contest is Pakistan in the semi-final is all but ruled out.
