India cricket team batter Rinku Singh has returned home before the India vs Zimbabwe match on February 15. Supposed to practice for the game, Team India had assembled for a training session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Rinku Singh leaves Team India for ailing father
Team India was to commence practice at 5:30 PM IST, but Rinku wasn’t to be seen anywhere. After the halfway mark of the training session, it came out that Rinku had returned home due to a family emergency. Rinku’s father, Khanchand Singh, has health concerns. The star batter’s father has been battling liver cancer for a year and is undergoing treatment. His condition has worsened over the last couple of days, and that’s why Rinku has flown to Noida.
“It was detected around a year ago, following which he stopped delivering LPG cylinders on insistence from Rinku. Since then, he has been undergoing treatment under the guidance of doctors from the same Noida hospital. They were also administering him expensive injections since then,” a source told the New Indian Express. “The condition of his father deteriorated, following which he was put on a ventilator. Rinku was informed about it,” the source added.
Will Rinku Singh be available for IND vs ZIM match?
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hasn’t provided an update on the matter yet. One doesn’t know whether Rinku will be available for the India vs Zimbabwe match. He still has 2 days to return.
With the Super 8 qualification on the line, the selection panel and team management will have to take a call. Perhaps they’ll stick with Rinku, with him skipping the must-win game and someone else taking his spot. Or he could be replaced with another batter.
One just hopes that Rinku, his father and family are all fine and well.
