Former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar has blamed the team selection for the side’s loss against India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. India extended their winning streak against the arch-rivals in the marquee tournament with a 61-run win against them in the group stage. The last time PAK beat IND in a T20 WC was way back in 2021 in Dubai.
Why did Pakistan lose to India in T20 WC 2026?
Speaking on Tapmad, Akhtar claimed that the team selection was the main reason behind Pakistan’s defeat against India. He claimed that the team was being bogged down. The former Pakistan pacer claimed that Salman Ali Agha and co. were good enough to beat any other team and that it was incomprehensible as to what PAK were doing in terms of picking their playing XI.
“Unfortunately, we are just losing to India because we are getting bogged down. There is no other reason. Our team selection is not correct. I do not even understand what we are doing. Otherwise, we are good enough to beat any team right now,” Akhtar claimed.
While India have remained unbeaten so far in the T20 WC, secured 4 out of 4 wins in the group stage, Pakistan finished with 3 wins to their name, losing just one game against India. On Saturday, the PAK vs NZ contest in Colombo was washed out without a ball being bowled due rain. The two sides could lock horns once again, provided they qualify for the T20 World Cup semis.
