India cricket team will take a one-day break on Thursday after finishing unbeaten in the group stage of the T20 World Cup. Having already beaten USA, Namibia and Pakistan previously, Suryakumar Yadav and co. extended the streak to 4-0 as they defeated Netherlands on Wednesday by 17 runs. India will now gear up for the Super 8 stage where they have been placed in Group 1 and will face South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Team India to take well-deserved break
Speaking at the post-match presentation, captain Suryakumar confirmed that the team will have a day off on Thursday. On being asked if India had managed to tick all the boxes so far in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, SKY responded saying that while majority of the areas were covered, there were some learnings as well. The Indian captain said that the team will have a day off on Thursday which they will utilize to ponder and plan on how they can fill in the gaps.
“I mean, you can say that we have ticked almost all the boxes, but even if you win, you learn something out of it. And we have learned a few areas. We’ll go back to the rooms, have a day off tomorrow, and have a chat on that,” Suryakumar Yadav said.
India finished their Group A formalities with a 17-run win over the Netherlands in Ahmedabad. They were not clinical but Shivam Dube and Varun Chakaravarthy delivered the goods to take India home. Dube hit a 31-ball 66 to lift India up from a slump and help post 193/6. India struggled in the first 10 overs with 74/3. But in the last 10 overs, Dube and Hardik Pandya (30 off 21) combined to add 119 runs. Suryakumar Yadav (34 off 28) and Tilak Varma (31 off 27) also contributed to the total after Abhishek Sharma scored his third duck in a row of this T20 World Cup.
