The India cricket team will continue to adhere to its no-handshake policy against Pakistan when the two sides meet at in Colombo in the T20 World Cup 2026 clash. It is pertinent to point out that following the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor last year, none of the Indian teams (India men’s women’s or U19) have shook hands with the Pakistan team in any of the ICC or ACC events.
India’s no handshake policy slammed
As per The Indian Express, the Indian team will continue to maintain status quo on the no handshake policy in Colombo in February 15. The report claims that captain Suryakumar is unlikely to offer a handshake to his Pakistani counterpart in the IND vs PAK T20 World Cup 2026 clash. Taking to social media platform X, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar said that the no handshake policy started by India was not just a silly thing but was also unbecoming of a great nation. The former Indian cricketer directed the team to either play cricket in the proper spirit against Pakistan or not play at all.
On the eve of the IND vs PAK, T20 World Cup 2026 clash in Colombo, India cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav was asked if the team will maintain its no handshake policy. An irate Indian skipper snapped at the reporter who asked the question and said that the suspense would be broken on Sunday and questioned if this was more important than the game.
“We will break the suspense tomorrow. Is the game important or this? Wait for 24 hours,” Suryakumar Yadav said.
But if reports are to be believed, or maybe social media chatter, the handshakes will happen. On the eve of the match in Colombo, PAK skipper Salman Ali Agha was asked the same question. He did respond, but of course, it is not as as easy, as it sounds.
“I expect game should be played in the spirit it has always been played since its inception,” he said. As for the handshake, he said, “We’ll find out tomorrow.”
