The Bangladesh Cricket Board has categorically denied reports of the International Cricket Council (ICC) asking the body to decide on traveling to India for the T20 World Cup 2026 by January 21. This comes after a report yesterday claimed that the global body was running out of patience in the matter of BAN seeking relocation of their matches from India to Sri Lanka. The drama between the BCB, BCCI and the ICC has been going on for a couple of weeks now, with Bangjaldesh and the global body writing to each other back and foth.
Bangladesh denies January 21 ultimatum
As per The Daily Star, BCB media committee chairman Amjad Hossain claimed that an ICC representative had met with the board on January 17 and that they were informed about Bangladesh’s request seeking alternate venues for their T20 World Cup games. Hossain said that no specifc date was mentioned on taking a decision on the matter and that the ICC’s decision will be conveyed to them soon.
“Last Saturday on January 17, an ICC representative came and our cricket board representatives held a meeting with him. There, in regards to World Cup participation, there was issue with the venue and we informed them about our reluctance to play in that venue. We requested for alternate venue and we held detailed discussions with the representatives. They told us that they will inform the ICC about the issues and will let us know about the decision later on. In regards to these talks, they haven’t mentioned a specific date or when they will let us know. They just told us that they will let us know when the next discussion will take place. Thank you,” Amjad said.
ICC rejects all proposals by Bangladesh
One of the BCB’s last proposals, swapping groups with Ireland so Bangladesh could play all matches in Sri Lanka, has also been dismissed. Cricket Ireland confirmed it had received “definitive assurances” that its fixtures will remain unchanged. The ICC views any group reshuffle as a major headache with broadcasters, ticketing partners and other participating nations.
