The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has issued a final warning and imposed a £30,000 fine (approximately INR 36 lakh) on Harry Brook.
The England white-ball captain was involved in an altercation and was punched by a bouncer on the night before England faced New Zealand in Wellington on November 1. This was England’s last match before the 2025-26 Ashes, which commenced exactly 3 weeks after the incident.
Harry Brook reprimanded by ECB
Brook managed only 6 runs in the following match against New Zealand, which England lost as part of their 0-3 ODI series defeat. That same night, a video surfaced on social media showing Brook and Jacob Bethell drinking.
However, the news about Brook’s altercation has only come out after England were routed by Australia 4-1. It’s almost customary for skeletons to come out of the closet after England loses the Ashes down under.
“I want to apologise for my actions. I fully accept that my behaviour was wrong and brought embarrassment to both myself and the England team. Representing England is the greatest honour of all, which I take seriously and I am deeply sorry for letting down my team-mates, coaches and supporters.
I have reflected on the lessons it has taught me about responsibility, professionalism and the standards expected of those representing your country. I am determined to learn from this mistake and to rebuild trust through my future actions, both on and off the field. I apologise unreservedly and will work hard to ensure this does not happen again,” Brook said in a statement.
“We are aware of this incident and it has been dealt with through a formal and confidential ECB disciplinary process. The player involved has apologised and acknowledged their conduct fell below expectations on this occasion,” ECB said in a statement.
