Lockie Ferguson is not only set to miss the T20I series in India but is also doubtful for the T20 World Cup 2026

In what could be a blow for New Zealand cricket team, Lockie Ferguson has picked up an injury right before the IND vs NZ series and the T20 World Cup 2026. The pace sensation picked up a calf injury during his ILT20 stint with Desert Vipers. As a result, Ferguson is not only set to miss the T20I series in India but is also doubtful for the T20 World Cup 2026 that will take place in February.

Ferguson blow for New Zealand

Ferguson sustained a calf injury in the ILT20 game between Desert Vipers and MI Emirates on December 21. Subsequently, he was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament and the Big Bash League (BBL) as well. Lockie was supposed to join the New Zealand side to feature in the five-match T20I series against India after his stint with Sydney Thunder. However, that seems very unlikely at this point of time.

The pacer has had a history of dealing with injuries, especially at crucial junctures. Ferguson missed the Champions Trophy 2025 due to a hamstring injury. He was then awarded a casual contract by New Zealand Cricket, with hopes that he would spearhead the pace unit at the T20 World Cup. It is pertinent to point out that Ferguson last featured in a T20I for New Zealand way back in November 2024. The five-match T20I series against India will commence from January 21 onwards.

Lockie, who was retained by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for Rs 2 crore, featured in just 4 matches for the franchise in IPL 2025 where he managed to pick up 5 wickets. Given his history of dealing with injuries, there is a cloud of uncertainty over his participation in IPL 2026 as well. I
