WATCH: Steve Smith punishes Jofra Archer after heated exchange during Ashes 2nd Test

It was no surprise that Archer and Smith went at each other in the pink-ball Ashes Test, even though Australia cruised to victory to take a 2-0 lead

Australia cricket team captain Steve Smith had a heated exchange with Jofra Archer during the 2nd Ashes Test, giving a throwback to the fans. The duo have been involved in a cut-throat competition against each other previously in the longest format of the game as well. It was no surprise that Archer and Smith went at each other in the pink-ball Ashes Test in Brisbane, even though Australia cruised to victory to take a 2-0 lead in the Ashes 2025 series.

Smith-Archer have heated exchange

“Bowl fast when there’s nothing going on champion,” Smith was heard telling Archer during Australia’s 2nd innings in the AUS vs ENG 2nd Ashes Test. What followed was the batter striking the bowler for a boundary. Almost immediately, Smith was beaten b a deliver off Archer following which there was an exchange of words once again between the two. Smith finished with 23 runs to his name off 9 deliveries, striking tow fours and sixes each as Australia secured an 8-wicket win in the AUS vs ENG 2nd Ashes Test.

England were bowled out for 334 runs in their 1st innings of the 2nd Ashes Test, with Mitchell Starc picking 6 wickets. In response, Australia managed to score 511 runs, thereby taking a considerable lead. England were dismissed for just 241 runs in their 2nd innings, thanks to Michael Neser’s five-wicket haul.

In response, Australia chased down the target in just 10 overs, with Weatherald and Smith staying unbeaten on 17 and 23 respectively. With the win in Brisbane, Australia have taken an unassailable2-0 lead in the five-match Ashes series.
