The countdown to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has officially begun, with all 20 teams now confirmed for the marquee event. Scheduled to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka in early 2026, the tournament is probably one of the most exciting international tournaments. Defending champions India will look to retain their crown on home soil, while debutants Italy will make their maiden appearance at a men’s ICC event.
The qualification pathway saw teams from every corner of the world book their berths. From Europe, the Netherlands and Italy made it through the regional qualifiers, while Canada topped the Americas event. In Asia, Nepal, Oman, and the UAE claimed the final three spots after dominating the Asia–East Asia Pacific Qualifier. Alongside the automatic qualifiers from the 2024 edition, this forms a strong 20-team lineup for the mega event.

T20 World Cup 2026 Format & Details
The ICC has retained the same 20-team format introduced in 2024. Teams will be divided into four groups of five, with the top two from each group advancing to the Super 8s. The Super 8s will feature two groups of four teams each, followed by the semi-finals and the final. This structure ensures that every side gets a fair number of matches.
The tournament will be played in February–March 2026, just ahead of the IPL season. It will be the second consecutive ICC event hosted by India after the ongoing ICC ODI Women’s World Cup. With powerhouse nations like Australia, England, and South Africa joined by underdogs, the T20 World Cup 2026 promises to be a massive one, especially on batting-friendly Indian pitches.
