Despite a couple of prolific seasons for PBKS, finisher Shashank Singh is yet to make his T20I debut for Team India

Punjab Kings star Shashank Singh is confident of finding a place in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 although he is currently out of the favour of the selectors. The batter, who had a breakout season in IPL 2024 followed by an equally brilliant season in 2025, is yet to make his debut in the shortest format of the game for the Men in Blue. Singh has claimed that he firmly believes he’ll make it to the 15-member squad for the marquee event that will be held in India in February 2026.

Shashank to be part of India in T20 World Cup 2026?

As per ESPNCricinfo, Shashank claimed that he believes he will not just be a part of Team India in the T20 World Cup 2026 but will also go on to win games for the side. Being 33 years old at the moment, the PBKS batter claims that age is no bar while going on to cite examples of T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and Pravin Tambe, who made his IPL debut while being over 40-years of age. Singh further predicted PBKS to lift the IPL trophy in the 2026 edition.

And one more prediction I have, and that is in the upcoming [T20] World Cup in India, I’ll be playing, and I’ll be winning games for the team. I don’t know how that will happen, but I surely believe that it will happen,” Shashank Singh said.

After PBKS bagged the ‘wrong Shashank’ in IPL 2024, he proved the naysayers wrong with a 354-run season. He scored a couple of half-centuries and averaged 44.25 in that ediion. In the next season, he fared a little better, finishing with 350 runs from 17 matches, striking three fifties and averaging 50.

Despite his good form, Shashank wasn’t considered for selection in the Asia Cup 2025. Given that India have zeroed in on majority of their squad for the T20 WC 2026, it is highly unlikely that the PBKS batter could find a spot. Regardless, there are over 10 T20Is left before the marquee event and it remains to be seen if the selectors will consider Singh for them.
