Even though the dates for the T20 World Cup 2026 are not out as yet, but as per a report in ESPN.in, the tournament will most likely happen in India & Sri Lanka from Feb 7 to March 8. The tournament will consist of 20 teams, and will be played across five venues in two countries.
T20 World Cup in Feb Next Year
The venue for the final is also decided, which would either be Ahmedabad, or Colombo, if Pakistan make it to the summit clash. The report further suggested, that the schedule is not decided as yet, but only the window is identified. And this window means, it would be before IPL 2026.
As far as the tournament format is concerned, nothing changes from the previous edition, where all the teams are divided in four groups. The top two teams then make it to Super8s, and from there on the semi-finalists are decided. That makes it 55 matches in all. Meanwhile, for now 15 teams have confirmed their berths for the T20 World Cup 2026, and the remaining five will come out from the African, Asian and East Asia Pacific qualifiers.
IPL 2026 From March 15
The T20 World Cup in Feb also means an action-packed schedule at home for the BCCI. January 2026 will see the WPL, followed by the IPL 2026, whose likely window is from March 15 to May 31. Other than that, India play host to New Zealand as well, and play a white-ball series from Jan 11 to 31.
As is clear, Pakistan will play all their matches in Sri Lanka, due to the strained relations between the two nations. Both nations have refused to play in each other’s country, and will only play at neutral venues for the next three years.
