Yograj Singh accuses Kapil Dev of 'match fixing', claims 'heads of legends will roll'

Ex-Indian cricketer Yograj Singh questioned why the match-fixing case involving Kapil Dev was forced shut and can't be reopened

Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh has raised the match-fixing allegations against ex-India captain Kapil Dev and has alleged that the file was forced shut. The 1983 World Cup-winning captain was questioned by the CBI after he was accused, along with others, by Manoj Prabhakaran of asking him to throw away games. While the investigation agency cleared Dev of all charges in 2000, Yograj has now made an explosive claim.

Yograj raises question on match-fixing case?

In an interview with InsideSport, Yograj claimed that players, including Kapil Dev, Mohammed Azharudeen, among others were allegedly accused of being involved in match-fixing. The former Indian cricketer questioned why the case was shut and claimed that it won’t be reopened as a lot of legends’ heads would roll.

Ask all the journalists, where is the file of match-fixing lying in the Supreme Court? Who all were involved in match-fixing? First, Kapil Dev’s name was involved, then Azharudeen’s, and a lot of other players. Why was that file closed and not reopened? Because a lot of the heads of legends will roll,” Yograj claimed.

Among the allegations made by Prabhakaran in 1997 was that he was offered money by Dev to perform poorly. After extensively interrogating those linked to the case, the CBI submitted its final report stating that there was no “credible evidence” of match fixing by Kapil. The YV Chandrachud Committee, formed by the BCCI to probe the matter, in its report made public in 2000 reportedly stated that “there was no plausible reason why Manoj Prabhakar had to wait 3 to 6 years to report match-fixing allegations.”

This is not the first instance where Yograj has openly attacked Kapil Dev. Recently, he claimed that the former Indian captain had treated players like shit. Last year, he made a bold claim by revealing that he had threatened to kill Dev after he was dropped from the team.
