England suffered a major injury blow with spinner Shoaib Bashir going off the field. The 21-year-old was hit on the hand by a Ravindra Jadeja shot. He was since taken off the field and did not come on after Tea on Day 3 of the IND vs ENG 3rd Test.
Shoaib Bashir injures hand after Ravindra Jadeja shot, goes off the field
Shoaib Bashir is the only frontline spin option in England’s XI and his stay was cut short. Bashir who has struggled in this series, looked in good rhythm as he dismissed centurion KL Rahul soon after Lunch. The 21-year-old however could not add more dismissals to his name after injuring his hand.
The incident happened in the 78th over of India’s innings. Ravindra Jadeja drilled Bashir down the ground, who got a hand to it. The 21-year-old instantly called for help, writhing in pain from the blow. He went off and Joe Root completed his over. He did not return even after the Tea break, adding to England’s woes. Root, who had not bowled in the game until that point, sent a few more down in the final session.
He was later seen walking around the sidelines. Bashir had heavy taping on his fingers and was cleared to bowl in the final session. A further call would be taken after the end of day’s play.
