Just a week after he was drafted into the England squad, for the India Tests, pacer Gus Atkinson has been released from the team. The move has come, so that the express pacer can play club cricket for his boyhood team, as per Wisden. Meanwhile, Atkinson was added to the England team, minutes after they lost the Edgbaston Test.

That said, he was not included in the playing XI, instead Jofra Archer was picked over Josh Tongue. The other two pacers in the team — Brydon Carse and Chris Woakes retained their spots in the playing XI. Atkinson also was with the squad for the first two days of the Lord’s Test.
Now, he will turn up for his childhood club, South London Club Spencer CC. This will also be the first time since 2019, that Gus Atkinson will be playing for this team. Then from then on, he went on to make his England debut in 2023, and turned out to be an excellent find for the team.
