Harry Brook new no. 1 Test batter, Shubman Gill storms into top 10 ICC rankings

England's Harry Brook has reclaimed his spot as the no. 1 Test batter while Indian captain Shubman Gill is closing in on top five

England cricket team batter Harry Brook has piped teammate Joe Root to reclaim the no.1 spot on ICC ranking for batters. Brook’s 158-run knock at Edgbaston coupled with Root’s twin poor outings, the former was able to climb back to the top. Meanwhile, India cricket team captain Shubman Gill has stormed into the top after his record-breaking knocks in the ENG vs IND 2nd Test.

Gill closes in on top 5 Test batters

As per the latest ICC ranking, Gill is now just one place behind Steve Smith at no.6 on the standings for batters. The first four are Brook, Root, Kane Williamson and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Rishabh Pant, who scored a couple of hundreds and a half-century so far in the series against England, is the only other Indian batter in the top 10.

Both Brook and Gill have had a phenomenal season with the bat so far. The England batter registered scores of 99,0, 158 and 23 in 4 innings. Gill, on the other hand, 585 runs to his name from 4 innings, averaging 146.25.

Meanwhile, England keeper-batter Jamie Smith has jumped to the 10th position, rising 16 spots.

Jasprit Bumrah continues to be the number 1 ranked Test bowler and Ravindra Jadeja the number 1 ranked all-rounder. By the virtue of his 367-run knock against Zimbabwe, South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder has moved 12 spots up to the third place on the all-rounders’ ranking. Siraj moved from 28th to 22nd.

In other news, Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka has moved two places to sixth in the ODI batters ranking. Gill continues to occupy the top spot. Kamindu Mendis has broken into the top 10 and is placed at 10th while Wanindu Hasaranga is now the 8th ranked ODI bowler. Sri Lanka recently secured their 8th straight ODI series win after defeating Bangladesh at home.
