Former Australia batter Stuart Law has been appointed as the coach of the Nepal men’s cricket team on a two-year contract. He takes over from Monty Desai, whose contract was not renewed by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) after a two-year stint.
Experienced coach
Stuart Law is well-versed in international coaching, having previously guided the United States to the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup during their first World Cup appearance. Despite leading the U.S to a historic win against Pakistan, he left his role after six months. Law has also coached teams like the West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, bringing a wealth of experience to his new role with Nepal.
Upcoming challenges for Nepal
Under Stuart Law’s guidance, Nepal will face big challenges. They are set to play against Scotland and the Netherlands in World Cup League 2 in June as part of their qualifiers for the 2027 Cricket World Cup, to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Later, in October, they will enter the qualification rounds for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Nepal had finished at the bottom of their group in the 2024 edition of the tournament earlier.

Stuart Law’s playing career
Away from his coaching career, Stuart Law was a 1996 Cricket World Cup runner-up with Australia. He played 54 one-day internationals and one Test for the Australian team. He spent considerable time playing in England with Essex and Lancashire and served as head coach of Middlesex before joining the United States team. His extensive experience in both playing and coaching is expected to bring new insights and strategies to the Nepal cricket team.
