India’s loss is Lords’s loss. Since Rohit Sharma’s men did not make it to the WTC final, after their 1-3 loss vs Australia, now the stadium would miss out on some major revenue. As per The Times, Lords’ Cricket Ground could face revenue drop of INR 45 crore. Now, the WTC final will take place between Australia and Sri Lanka.
NO India vs Australia in WTC Final
Lords’ had initially set exorbitant prices for a potential India-Australia final, with high interest expected from Indian fans, but that will not be the case now. As a corrective measure now, the MCC has reduced the ticket prices, to record higher sales, and ensure no empty seats.
It is important to note that the MCC had received widespread criticism last year after ENG vs SL Test had only seen 9,000 spectators on the fourth day of the match. Now, the WTC final ticket prices range between INR 4000 to INR 11000, which is approximately, INR 5000 down than the proposed prices for an IND vs AUS final.
Lord’s Cricket Stadium to Incur Losses
Meanwhile, the MCC has also refunded the price difference to the members who bought the tickets before the price reduction for the tickets. Also, additional tickets will be available for the AUS vs SA match now, this month, with hospitality packages also being provided.
Lords’, but will go on to host IND vs ENG in June-July later in the year, during the Test series. In fact, the stadium is sold out for the first four days. Then there is an ODI between SA vs ENG, that is also sold out. A women’s ODI against India has also generated high level of interest among the fans. Apart from that, the iconic venue will also host the Hundred final.
