Satwik-Chirag out of top-10 for first time since 2021, PV Sindhu & Lakshya Sen drop along

BWF ranking shakes up and India's top players drop positions. Satwik-Chirag & Lakshya Sen drop out of the top-10.

India’s top shuttler doubles pair of Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and singles player Lakshya Sen dropped out of top 10 in the latest BWF World Rankings on Tuesday. Now, the former world number pair is placed at the 12th spot. They last played in the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships, and their rank dropped from 7th to 12th. Surprisingly, this is the first time since November 2021 that they aren’t in the top 10.

Lakshya Sen’s rankings slip

Lakshya Sen has also experienced a fall in the men’s singles rankings. Previously ranked 10th, he is now in the 15th position. Like Rankireddy-Shetty, Sen’s last tournament was also the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships. The 2025 season hasn’t been kind to him, as he faced early exits in Malaysia and India Opens. His best performance was reaching the Round of 16 at the Indonesia Masters Super 500.

Satwik-Chirag change coach

After a tough outing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Rankireddy and Shetty have been inconsistent for a long time now. They decided to make some changes by parting ways with their coach Mathias Boe and training under Tan Kim Her, who originally paired them when they were young. Despite the rank drop, they remain the highest-ranked Indian team in men’s doubles.

Ranking slump for PV Sindhu

In women’s singles, PV Sindhu has dropped to 16th place from the 15th. Sindhu remains the only Indian in the top 20 women’s singles. In contrast, the women’s doubles team of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand are ranked ninth, making them India’s only team in the top 10. Meanwhile, Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila reached their career-high in mixed doubles at 19th. Ayush Shetty also climbed to his best rank, now 43rd in men’s singles.
