"I just want to…": Harshit Rana breaks silence on concussion sub controversy after IND vs ENG 1st ODI

Harshit Rana brushed off criticism about his concussion substitute role, saying he is focused on playing for India and not worried about outside opinions.

India’s young bowler, Harshit Rana, is focused on helping the team succeed, ignoring outside criticism. On his ODI debut against England in Nagpur, the 23-year-old pacer took 3 wickets for 33 runs, helping India win by four wickets and gain a 1-0 lead in the thee match series. Despite earlier criticism for being a concussion substitute for Shivam Dube in a T20I match, Rana remains unfazed. “People will always talk. I just want to play, good or bad. I’m not bothered. My only focus is to deliver for my country.” he said in the press conference.

Harshit Rana on challenges

Rana was included in the team as cover for Jasprit Bumrah and was mentally prepared for his debut. He said, “You only get to know if you’re playing when you arrive at the ground. But I always keep myself ready, knowing anything can happen at any time.” Though he had a challenging over, conceding 26 runs against his KKR teammate Phil Salt, Rana made a strong comeback by dismissing Ben Duckett and Harry Brook in one over. “Cricket has ups and downs. I just focused on my length and got my rewards later. I didn’t change anything in my second spell, just hit the right areas.” he added.

Jos Buttler praise Jacob Bethell

Phil Salt gave England a fast start, but his run-out due to a mix-up and a great throw from Shreyas Iyer was a turning point. England’s captain, Jos Buttler, acknowledged the impact: “We had momentum at that point, and we needed to sustain the pressure. That’s been our challenge—holding onto momentum when we have it.” Buttler praised Jacob Bethell, a 21-year-old, for his impressive half-century and noted, “He was mature, composed, and handled pressure well. This experience will be invaluable for him.” India aims to win the series when they face England again in the second ODI on Sunday.
