The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced the squad for the last round of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season. The 42-time champions are on the cusp of being knocked out of the red-ball tournament after losing the last match against Jammu and Kashmir. They need to win against Meghalaya to have a chance to qualify for the quarterfinal.
No Prithvi Shaw in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad
In a must-win match, they won’t have Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, or Yashasvi Jaiswal’s services as they will attend a training camp for the India vs England ODI series in Nagpur. They had already lost Musheer Khan and Sarfaraz Khan, both injured. Shivam Dube has joined the India cricket team for the T20I against England and therefore is unavailable as well.
Despite six top players missing out, MCA still hasn’t added Prithvi Shaw to the team. The opener played two matches in the first leg of the Ranji Trophy but was dropped from Mumbai’s team as the captain and the selection committee weren’t happy with his fitness and needed a jolt.

Tiff with MCA and working on fitness
He wasn’t included in the squad for the second leg after being snubbed from the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He lashed out after his snub from the 50-over tournament, and there was a little back and forth between the MCA and Prithvi Shaw. Questions over his commitment and fitness were raised again.
He’s since started working hard on his fitness. However, it seems that the MCA isn’t pleased with him yet. He’s fallen so out of favour that he can’t even get into the squad despite two openers being out and four middle-order batters pulling out as well.
