KKR star Venkatesh Iyer twists his ankle in Ranji Trophy match, saves MP from embarrassment later

Madhya Pradesh were reeling at 50/4 when Venkatesh Iyer walked out to bat.

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fans have something to worry about. Their Rs 23.75 crore acquisition Venkatesh Iyer cried in pain when he twisted his ankle during the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Kerala. Playing for the Madhya Pradesh (MP), Venkatesh came out when his side were in dire straits. But an unfortunate injury came as a huge shocker for everyone. But the IPL 2024 champions showed that he is a proper team man and saved MP from embarrassment.

Agony for Venkatesh Iyer

Walking out at number six, Venkatesh Iyer had hopes from the Madhya Pradesh camp. Kerala bowlers ran riot as MP were at 50/4. However, when facing his third ball, Venkatesh was hit on his ankle and went down straightaway. His knock came to an abrupt halt when he collapsed in agony on the pitch, clearly in severe pain. The team’s physio rushed to his side, and Iyer eventually hobbled off the field with assistance, unable to continue. Later, he was spotted in the dugout, nursing his injured leg and wearing only one pad, leaving KKR fans worried sick—especially given the massive Rs 23.75 crore investment the franchise made in him at the IPL 2025 auction.

Superb from Venkatesh Iyer

Madhya Pradesh were at 117/8 and Kerala hoped to bundle them under 130. But then came Venkatesh, struggling from his knock on the ankle. Despite all his pain, Venkatesh showed immense courage and dished out something special. Venky hit two fours and a six as he added 41 more runs. As a result, MP finished their first inning at 160 all-out, with Nidheesh taking a fifer.
