The much anticipated Kolkata Derby won’t be taking place in the City of Joy. ISL table toppers Mohun Bagan is slated to host this mouth-watering fixture against arch-rivals East Bengal. However, owing to security concerns, the venue won’t be in Kolkata. The Indian Super League (ISL) has however claimed that the date for the Derby remains the same, i.e. 11th January.
InsideSport previously reported that there were chances of the game getting postponed owing to security concerns. However, now that doesn’t seem to be the case. Instead, now the game will played on the same date, but the venue is yet to be decided.

Kolkata Derby venue yet to be decided
As things stand, none of the Kolkata giants have an idea about the venue. A senior Mohun Bagan official informed this website that the venue will be decided and notified to fans on Monday. As things stand, the league is trying to find a venue that would be beneficial for both teams to play in.
“The match is not moving away from its date, so it will be held on 11th Jan. But the venue is not decided yet. As things stand currently, Kolkata won’t be the venue. The State Government hasn’t given us the permission as there will be a scarcity of police and other security personnel,” a senior Mohun Bagan official said.
It has also come to our notice that the Mariners had proposed two options to the government to allow the game to take place at the Salt Lake Stadium. First – Allowing 50% of fans in the ground. But the State Government didn’t agree. Later on, the Green and Maroon management also opted for the game without any fans on the ground. Still, the government didn’t budge.
And thus, the Kolkata Derby is going to shift away from Kolkata. The final venue for this highly anticipated clash between Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal will be decided in the coming days.
