WWE Smackdown: Roman Reigns 504 days as Universal Champion

Roman Reigns made a shocking return at the 2020 Summerslam PPV event aligning with Paul Heyman. The inside story suggests that Reigns wanted to return as a heel and work with Paul Heyman. Vince gave this idea a thumbs up and Reigns claimed the Universal Title for the second time at WWE Payback which followed Summerslam.

It was a triple-threat match between The Fiend, Braun Strowman, and Roman Reigns for the title, but Roman came into the match in the closing moments when both the competitors were exhausted after beating the hell out of each other. Reigns came with a steel chair in his hand and stood on the ramp with Paul Heyman, who had the contract for the ongoing triple threat match.

Reigns signed the contract and marched to the ring. He brutally assaulted the already exhausted Fiend and Braun Strowman with multiple chair shots before nailing a spear on Braun Strowman to pick up a win.
