WWE Smackdown – Smackdown Results and Highlights: Check out the big highlights and what happened on WWE Friday Night Smackdown Episode on 29th January: The Royal Rumble go-home edition of Friday Night Smackdown gave us the final build-up for the WWE Royal Rumble PPV event. The show kicked off with all ladies of Smackdown competing in the Royal Rumble match, making their way to the ring in a back & forth segment that also saw the return of ‘The Boss’ Sasha Banks. What else took place on the Royal Rumble go-home edition of Smackdown? Take a look.

WWE Smackdown – Smackdown Results and Highlights:

Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins face-to-face- The segment started off with Roman Reigns asking Kansas City to Acknowledge Him. Rollins then started off by thanking Roman Reigns for disqualifying the bout last week and making their title match at Royal Rumble a one-on-one affair.

Roman countered this by saying that he didn’t want to embarrass his cousins or his family by letting Seth pin his cousins. Seth marked his words and said if taking a pin from him is an embarrassment for Roman Reigns & his family, then Roman is the biggest embarrassment for their family as he has been pinned multiple times by Seth Rollins in the past and something similar is going to happen at the Royal Rumble.

Seth then went into the past and told Roman how he embarrassed him during his cash-in at Wrestlemania and stole his spotlight. He then made Roman remember how he defeated him for the WWE title after he returned from a knee injury, and finally, Rollins pointed out how he slammed that steel chair right at the back of Rollins (The Shield’s betrayal).

The chair strike thing got into the head of Reins and he looked a bit perplexed and agitated. After exchanging a few words, Roman pushed Rollins twice and then started walking out of the ring, but he returned and tried to hit a Superman Punch right behind Rollins, but the Visionary ducked it and left the ring laughing at Roman Reigns.

 

 

Big E & Sir Kofi Kingston vs. Happy Corbin & Madcap Moss- Big E and Madcap Moss started the proceedings. Moss first took down Big E with a shoulder tackle, and then it was Big E’s turn to rock Moss with a back elbow.

Both men then exchanged tags with their partners. Kofi and Corbin were the legal men now and Kofi was getting the better of Moss and Corbin simultaneously. We saw him sending both men outside the ring and taking the aerial route to dive from the top turnbuckle. However, Moss & Corbin caught him and slammed him face-first into the ring post on the outside, We now head into commercials.

After the commercials, we saw Kofi struggling against Moss. Moss then tagged in Corbin and we saw Kofi somehow making it to his corner to tag Big E. Big E changed the complexion by hitting two belly-to-belly suplexes on Corbin. He was going for a third one but Corbin didn’t let that happen.

However, he got the taste of a third belly-to-belly suplex afterward when he slid outside the ring to trick Big E but instead took the third belly-to-belly. The match continued and we finally reached the closing stage. We saw Big E taking the tag from Kofi and hit Moss with a Big Ending. Kofi took advantage and went for a frog splash from the top turnbuckle before Big E pinned Moss to win it for New Day.

Shinsuke Nakamura & Rick Boogs vs. Jinder Mahal & Shanky- The match already started during the commercial. Shinsuke tagged Boogs and the layer picked up Jinder to throw him in his corner. Jinder then tagged Shanky who started the assault on Boogs.

Shanky was wearing down Boogs, and when he wanted to tag in Shinsuke, Sami Zayn, who was at the announce desk, pulled Shinsuke down from the apron and the champ went face-first into the same.

Boogs was feeling the heat but didn’t give up. He handled both Jinder Mahal and Shanky on his own. He displayed brute power against the two superstars who were much larger than him in size. He hit his finisher on Shanky to pull off a victory for his team all by his own.

Sami Zayn’s IN-Zayn with Shanky & Jinder Mahal– Sami Zayn makes an announcement that IN-Zayn is now a podcast. Sami was talking trash about Johnny Knoxville. Sami’s special guests on his first-ever podcast were Jinder Mahal & Shanky who were all set to take on Rick Boogs & the Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura.

Sami was continuously trash-talking about Shinsuke Nakamura, Rick Boogs, and Johnny Knoxville, before the IC champ and Boogs interrupted the segment. They entered the ring and Shinsuke rocked Sami with a kick on the face. Time for the match now.

 

 

Naomi vs. Sonya Deville- As the bell rang, Sonya was seen ducking Baini’s attacks, and then she was ducking underneath the rope again & again. The first attack was orchestrated by Naomi who hit a kick into the breadbasket of Naomi.

Soon Sonya launched with a series of strikes and looked fanatic with her moves. Naomi returned the favor with some moves of her own for a while, by Sonya was back with her attacks again. After some back & forth strikes, Naomi rocked Sonya with a step-up enzegurie and she went outside the ring.

Naomi attacked her on the outside and bashed her face into the apron. She then lifted her and send her inside the ring, but Sonya opted to roll out from the other side of the ring. Naomi tried to go for a Baseball slide from underneath the bottom rope, but Sonya caught her and stunned her with a neck breaker. We now head into commercials.

After the commercials, both ladies were inside the ring with Sonya in control. Sonya was trash-talking with both Naomi and the referee, which ultimately boosted Naomi who got up all of a sudden and side kicked on Sonya’s face. She then went for a springboard kick on Sonya followed by a springboard Stunner. Naomi went for some repetitive covers but Sonya kicked out every time which frustrated Naomi.

Naomi tried to bash her into the corner post, but Sonya countered and sent Naomi into the corner. She then brought her in the middle and nailed a unique move. She then went for a pin and Naomi kicked out which made Sonya scream in frustration.

We were now in the closing moments of the match. Sonya was frustrated and she could see a rearview coming from Naomi. After hitting the rearview, Naomi dragged Sonya to the corner and hit a springboard moonsault to pick up a win.

After the match got over, Naomi was elated while Sonya was irate. The latter once again used her authority power to give Naomi a surprise. The surprise was that she will be entering the women’s Royal Rumble match tomorrow.

 

 

Ricochet & Cesaro vs. Sheamus & Ridge Holland- Cesaro & Sheamus started off the proceedings. The two men got locked in a classic wrestling lock before Sheamus shoved Cesaro on one of the corners of the ring. Sheamus bought some time by going outside the ring and tried a hip toss while he returned, but Cesaro countered it.

Cesaro then tagged in Ricochet and the latter started his offense. He put Sheamus in a toll for a while before the latter tagged in Ridge Holland. Ridge and Ricochet exchanged a few offenses before Ridge was sent outside and Ricochet launched himself with a running over-the-top rope dive. We now head into commercials.

After the commercials, we saw Sheamus and Ricochet battling in the ring with the Celtic Warrior in command. He then tagged in Ridge who steamrolled Ricochet with his brawling moves. Ridge was brutalizing Ricochet and the layer was in a desperate need to tag in his partner Cesaro. Ricochet got an opening to tag in Cesaro when he went for a reverse moonsault from the middle rope on Ridge.

Cesaro was rolling now and he took out both Ridge and Sheamus. He sent Sheamus outside and went running into him with an uppercut near the barricade. He then rolled Sheamus back into the ring and went to the top turnbuckle for a body dive.

The body dive was placed perfectly, but while he was running Sheamus into the ropes, Ridge took the tag and Cesaro didn’t realize as he was setting up Sheamus for a Cesaro-Swing. Ridge came from behind and hit a headbutt on Cesaro’s face. The impact of the headbutt was sore as Ridge was already wearing a mask. He then hit his finisher on him to secure a win for his team.

Charlotte Flair opens the night- Charlotte Flair starts off by welcoming Kansas City to the show and tells them that she will bring the championship title to the city, something no other woman has done in the past. She then also tells how she is going to win the Royal Rumble by outlasting 29 other women and sending them over the top rope like trash.

Charlotte goes on and tells how she will change the game by becoming the first woman to win the Royal Rumble match as the champion and choosing her own challenger to main event of Wrestlemania 38. As she was speaking, Shayna Baszler interrupted Flair and walked into the ring. Shayna told her how she is going to rip apart her limbs at the Royal Rumble and send her over the top rope.

As Shayna was speaking, Aliyah also interrupted the segment and counted her chances of winning the Rumble and perhaps making it to her first-ever Wrestlemania. After Aliyah, Natalya and Shotzi also interrupted the segment, and the last one to interrupt was none other than the returning Sasha Banks.

Sasha made her way to the ring and announced that she is back and ready to Rumble. She then slapped Charlotte on her face and soon the other 4 ladies in the ring started a brawl. Finally, Charlotte hit a big foot on Aliyah and sent her outside the ring. Sasha then came into the picture again and sent Charlotte outside the ring to stand tall.
