For those who are unaware, the luchador’s one of the first main events in the global juggernaut was a Triple Threat match involving Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit. Speaking on the latest edition of The Kurt Angle Show, the Olympic gold medalist explained that Vince McMahon was not convinced about Rey featuring in main events.

“Yes, Vince was not very keen on a smaller guy making it to the main event,” revealed the WWE Hall of Famer. “As a matter of fact, you had to have a certain amount of size on you, especially in the 80s and 90s, you had to be over 240, but then he kind of loosened up and started taking in guys around 200, 185, 190, the Eddie Guerreros and the Chris Jerichos and the Chris Benoits.”

He further mentioned that after somebody convinced him to give the Mexican a chance, Rey did not give the boss a chance to doubt him.

And Rey, he wasn’t folding with Rey, but somebody talked him into it and said, ‘Give him a chance.’ And he did it that night, and from then on, Rey was a main eventer. Vince was wrong. I mean, Vince is hardly ever wrong, but he was wrong about this.” (H/T – Sportskeeda)

WWE News: Rey Mysterio recently was traded to WWE SmackDown

The recent storyline on WWE RAW saw Rey’s son Dominik turn on him. On several occasions, Dominik even hit his father while Mysterio could not do the same to his son.

Ultimately, the 47-year-was traded to the blue brand of WWE while Baron Corbin was shifted to RAW. Rey was seen in a backstage segment with Triple H where he expressed his desire to quit the company. While the Game was reluctant to let the Lucha legend leave, the former announced Mysterio as Karrion Kross’ replacement in the Fatal Four-Way match to determine GUNTHER’s next challenger for the Intercontinental Championship. The Ultimate Underdog went on to win the match.
