However, an unexpected injury put him on a hiatus. Earlier this month, Ciampa went under successful hip surgery in October 2022. As per the reports, his hip injury bothered him for a long time before he successfully underwent surgery.
Recently, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful gave an update on Tommaso Ciampa’s WWE status and mentioned his hip injury, which bothered him for almost a year before he opted for surgery.
“We also asked for an update on Tommaso Ciampa, but weren’t given a potential timetable for a return. We’re told that his hip injury had been bothering him for nearly a year.”
Currently, WWE hasn’t provided an update on Ciampa’s return. It seems we might see him before Royal Rumble or WrestleMania 39 if the doctors clear him for his in-ring return.

Before Tommaso Ciampa’s WWE hiatus, he feuded with Bobby Lashley for the US Title. Unfortunately, the Sicilian Psychopath couldn’t register his victory after an intense match. Meanwhile, fans praised his performance against the All-Mighty.

Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano were the pillars of the NXT brand since their debut competed as the famous tag team DIY. Although both men split up after Ciampa betrayed Gargano, both men still held the top ranks on the Black and Gold brand.
As per Xero News, WWE has creative plans for the duo to reunite on the main roster. The report stated that the plans will resume as soon as Ciampa returns from his injury hiatus.
“There are plans to reunite Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa on Monday Night Raw when Ciampa returns, Triple H thinks DIY will be great for the Tag Team division and wants them to have a run as a team again before fully breaking off into top singles contenders on the main roster.”
