Australia dominate Sri Lanka –

An incredible four-wicket haul from Travis Head helped Australia claim a thumping 10-wicket victory in Galle and go 1-0 up in the series. Australia’s spin contingent bowled the visitors to the verge of consecutive Test series wins abroad.

This could be the first time in 14 years that the Aussies could win back-to-back away Test series. Sri Lanka were no match to the Australian bowling attack and fell in a heap on Day 3 of the first Test match in Galle.

Without a wicket going into the match, Travis Head ended up with four in 17 balls and was applauded off the field by his teammates after they routed Sri Lanka for 113 in just 22.5 overs.

WTC standings after the SL vs AUS-

  • The win for Australia has tightened their grip over the top spot as they look nailed on to secure a place in next year’s final.
  • As things stand, Australia have a win percent rate of 77.78 in nine matches. They have won six and drawn three matches.
  • On the flip side, Sri Lanka have dropped a place courtesy of their defeat coupled with a win for West Indies.
  • Sri Lanka have a win percent rate of 47.62 in seven matches and have won three and lost three along with a draw.

India third in WTC standings-

  • India are also in action as they take on England in Edgbaston, however it is the only Test match they play in the tour.
  • Currently sitting third, India has a win percent rate of 58.33 in 11 matches. The Indian team has won six matches, lost three and drawn two matches in the current cycle.
  • Elsewhere, defending champions New Zealand are all but done as they slipped to 8th place after their humiliating 3-0 series defeat against England.
  • The English army have made great surge after losing the Ashes 4-0 and are seventh in the table with 28.89 percent win rate.
  • Pakistan are fourth in the table while Bangladesh languish at the bottom place in the current WTC standings.
