Australia’s defeat at Galle on Sunday saw them them drop down to second in the World Test Championship standings. Pat Cummins had a PCT of 77.78 heading into the Test, but the defeat has left them at 70. That is lesser than what South Africa boast, with Dean Elgar’s side having won 71.43 % of their games.

Sri Lanka meanwhile also made huge gains to topple India and Pakistan to 3rd in the WTC points table. Their series levelling victory took their PCT tally to 54%. India and Pakistan are now 5th and 6th by the barest of margins, with both having 52% points to their name.

India had earlier slipped down following their defeat to England at Edgbaston last week. Australia had gone top following their win in the 1st Test against Sri Lanka, but the loss on Monday sees them go back to 2nd. The Lankans now have a further chance to make up lost ground and put pressure on Australia and the rest when they take on Pakistan at home. The leaders South Africa have a tour to England line-up, while the Proteas will also tour Australia late this year.
