WTC Final 2023: India & Australia sport black armbands observe a minute’s silence for Odisha train disaster victims

Players came out wearing black armbands and a moment's silence was observed before the national anthems to remember Odisha Train accident victims.

Ind vs Aus: WTC Final 2023: The Indian and Australian players observed came out on the field sporting black armbands and observed a minute silence before the start of WTC Final 2023 to pay their condolences to the victims of the Odisha train tragedy.

India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field against Australia at The Oval. The players then came out wearing black armbands and a moment’s silence was observed before the national anthems to remember the victims of the train accident in Balasore which took place last Friday.

Ashwin dropped for WTC Final 2023

Earlier, Rohit Sharma confirmed that the Team has opted for four seamers and 1 spinner for the final. Ravichandran Ashwin, who has been instrumental in India’s success in red-ball cricket, found no place in the playing XI.

Rohit stressed that the overcast weather and bouncy pitch forced the management to drop the No. 1 Test bowler.

“It’s always tough. He’s been a match-winner for us, over the course of many years. So, leaving him out was tough. But you got to do the things that are needed for the team. So, eventually we came up with that decision,” Rohit told Hussain after winning the toss.

“The conditions and also the weather being overcast. The pitch won’t change too much. Four seamers and one spinner. The spinner is Jadeja,” Rohit further added.
