Wrestlers Protest: Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik has pleaded with the international community to help the wrestlers who are staging protest in Delhi, India. Malik and Vinesh Phogat also questioned the inauguration of the new Parliament House by PM Narendra Modi while India’s daughters are going through ‘pain’. The protesting wrestlers have called for the detention of Brij Bhushan Singh, head of the Indian Wrestling Federation, who they claim has harassed several female athletes.

The ace wrestler Malik claims that while Prime Minister is launching new Parliament on the one hand, the supporters of grapplers have been detained for standing behind us on the other.

“To all my international fraternity. Our Prime Minister is inaugurating our new parliament. But on the other hand, Our supporters has been arrested for supporting us,” Malik tweeted.

“By arresting people how we can call us “mother of democracy.” India’s daughters are in pain.”

Vinesh Phogat mirrored the opinion of her fellow wrestler.

“Democracy is being murdered openly at Jantar Mantar. On one hand the Prime Minister has inaugurated the new building of democracy. On the other hand the arrests of our people are on,” she said on her social media accounts.

The protesting wrestlers at the Jantar Mantar, some two kilometres from the Parliament, declared that they would proceed with their “Mahila Mahapanchayat” in the vicinity of the new structure at all costs.

The protesting wrestlers won’t be permitted near the new Parliament building, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to formally open. This has been made plain by Delhi Police.

“We respect our athletes but we will not let there be any disturbance in the inauguration (of new Parliament building),” Dependra Pathak, Special CP, Law & Order, Delhi Police told PTI.
