Wrestlers’ demand fulfilled as none of Brij Bhushan’s family members to Contest WFI Elections

The Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association is led by Singh's son Karan Bhushan, and the Bihar unit is led by Singh's son-in-law Aditya Pratap Singh.

WFI Elections: Despite being eligible, the family of outgoing WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh will not run in the federation elections. This has come after protesting wrestlers demanded Anurag Thakur that neither Singh’s family members nor his associates will be allowed to contest elections.

Elections for the Wrestling Federation of India’s president, senior vice-president, four vice-presidents, secretary-general, treasurer, two joint secretaries, and five executive members will take place on July 6.

The protesting wrestlers had suspended their protest until June 15 after Sports Minister Anurag Thakur told them that neither Singh’s family members nor his cronies would be permitted to run in the upcoming WFI Elections.

The Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association is led by Singh’s son Karan Bhushan, and the Bihar unit is led by Singh’s son-in-law Aditya Pratap Singh.

“They had a discussion and have decided that neither his son Karan nor his son-in-law Aditya will file nominations for WFI elections,” a source close to the Singh family told PTI.

“In the current circumstances, it is not advisable to do something that further fuels the controversy,” said the source.

However, Karan and Aditya will both take part in the elections and use their voting privileges.

WFI Elections

Additionally, it was informed that the election results would be released on the same day.

June 19 has been set as the deadline for receiving two nominations from each state and union territory to make up the electoral college, and the scrutiny will be finished by June 22.

Each state unit may send up to two representatives, each of whom will be allowed one vote. Therefore, there will be 50 votes in the electoral college for the WFI elections. However, it has been learned that a few state organisations that the WFI had previously disbanded have made their claim to take part in the elections.

The finest wrestlers in the nation, including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia, have accused Singh, 66, of sexual harassment and intimidation.

Two FIRs have been filed against him by the Delhi police, and a charge-sheet will probably be submitted in the near future.
