On Friday Night SmackDown last week, a fatal-5-way match was held to decide the Intercontinental Championship’s number one contender. However, the match ended in controversy as both Drew McIntyre and Sheamus were declared winners at the end of the match. However, on WWE SmackDown March 17 2023, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus faced each other to decide the #1 contender for Gunther’s Intercontinental Championship match at WrestleMania 39.

In the match, both Drew McIntyre and Sheamus were giving it their all. However at one point both of them were knocked down and with that, the Imperium launched an attack on them.
Moments later, Adam Pearce appeared on the titantron and announced that Gunther will defend his Intercontinental Championship against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus at WrestleMania.

With that, Sheamus took his Twitter handle to show his excitement after getting a shot at the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 39.
