With his victory at the 2023 Royal Rumble, Cody Rhodes punched his ticket to Wrestlemania 39. He has the chance to accomplish the one goal his legendary father couldn’t: become WWE Champion. However, Cody Rhodes has an incredibly difficult test waiting for him at Wrestlemania. He will have to defeat Roman Reigns, one of the most dominant champions that WWE has ever seen.

Paul Heyman and Cody share Stories of The Dusty Rhodes
During tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Cody Rhodes came to the ring to speak to the WWE universe. He was soon interrupted by Paul Heyman, manager and Wiseman of the Bloodline. Cody took the opportunity to share a story about his family; in 2000, the Rhodes fell on hard times. Paul Heyman, who was running ECW at the time, called Dusty Rhodes and asked him to appear at a show. He promised Dusty would be “paid handsomely.” Cody says it was this phone call that helped the Rhodes family get back on track financially, and gave Dusty his confidence back.

After some more fond words about the American Dream, Dusty Rhodes, Heyman decided to make things personal. He praised Dusty’s coaching skills, mentioning that Dusty trained some of WWE’s best stars, including Becky Lynch, Bayley, and even Cody’s upcoming opponent, Roman Reigns. But, Heyman makes sure to note, Dusty didn’t train Cody.

Heyman concludes with a story from the last conversation he had with Dusty Rhodes, where he claims Dusty told him that Cody was always his “favorite son,” but Roman was the son “he wished he had.”

Cody loses his cheerful demeanor and tells Heyman that since he made this feud personal, he’ll make sure to personally dethrone Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania.
