World Wrestling Championships LIVE – World Wrestling LIVE Streaming: Vinesh Phogat has finally helped India open its account in the medal tally as she clinched the bronze medal in the women’s 53 kg category on Wednesday. Vinesh, who lost in her opening round on Tuesday, made it to the repechage, where she utilised her opportunity to the fullest as she ensured a podium finish. Vinesh had huge expectations, but she faltered on the big stage as she could do nothing against Khulan Batkhuyag. India had more disappointment in store as Neelam Sirohi lost to two-time world silver medallist Emilia Alina Vuc of Romania 0-10 via technical superiority in the women’s 50kg. French wrestler Koumba Larroque, who was fighting with a highly strapped knee, pinned Shafali with a technical superiority in the women’s 65kg.

The Greco Roman Wrestlers disappointed on the first three days with none of them being able to reach a medal round. On the opening day, Vikas (72Kg), Sachin (77Kg) Sunil Kumar (87Kg) and Arjun Halakurki lost their Round 1 matches. While, Harpreet Singh, Neeraj and Ashu lost on Day 2 of the competition on Sunday. Deepanshu lost to Kiril Milenov Milov in the quarterfinal.

World Wrestling Championships: Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat named in Indian wrestling squad for World Championships

Meanwhile, Ravi Dahiya and Bajrang Punia too squandered their opportunity at the big stage as both of them bowed out from the tournament in the early stages, while Dahiya lost in the pre-quarters, Punia couldn’t win his quarterfinal contest. However Punia now has an opportunity to end the tournament by adding one more medal to India’s tally.

World Wrestling Championships LIVE starts today, Indian Greeco Roman Wrestlers in ACTION: Watch World Wrestling LIVE Streaming

World Wrestling LIVE Streaming: The tournament will kick off with Greco-Roman wrestlers who will be in action first. Saturday (10th September) will see four Greco-Roman weight classes on Saturday before four more on Sunday. September 12 will have two women’s and two Greco-Roman weight classes. Tuesday and Wednesday will be about women’s wrestling with four weights on the mat each day.

Freestyle competition begins with four weights on Friday, three on Saturday and three on Sunday, the final day of the tournament.

India has fielded a strong squad with Wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat, Ravi Dahiya, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia leading the fresstyle categories.

Indian squad is in good shape and great form. Most of them are entering World Championship at the back of winning medals at CWG 2022.

In the men’s fresstyle 57kg, World Champio Thomas Gilman tops the field, however he will face a tough challenge from Ravi Dahiya, who recently won the Asiuan Championship and also won the Commonwealth Games Gold. Bajrang Punia who has made a good comeback after a recurring knee injury will eye a podium finish in the Men’s 67kg category.

In the Women’s Freestyle Vinesh Phogat who has come back to form is eyeing her maiden World title. She will face a stiff challenge from USA’s Jacarra Winchesterw ho won the world title in 2019. The top seed in this category will be Germany’s Nina Hemmer.

In the 62 kg category, Sakshi Malik will be one of the favourites, but she will face a stiff challenge from Japan’s Ozaki Nonoka who is a reigning Asian Champion.

As far as the team event is considered, Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestlers are in contention to win the  title this year in this category as they miseed it last time at Oslo.  They will also face stiff copmpetiton from Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey. In freestyle, Iran and the USA are strong contenders for the title. Iran finished third in Oslo, six points behind the USA. In women’s wrestling, Japan will be the favorite to win the team title with the USA once again trying to challenge them for the top spot. Meanwhile, China too enters the tournament after a gapof three years so a strong competition is expected.
