It proved to be a dramatic final. Until the end of the fifth round, it was Tentoglou, who was in the lead with some consistent showing for majority of the final. He registered above 8m in all his jumps.

But the tables turned on its head in the final round. The Chinese jumper stunned one and all with an incredible jump of 8.36, which also happens to be his season’s best. It takes a lot of courage to come and deliver one’s game in such a premier stage and that is what exactly Wang did in the sixth attempt.

As soon as the white flag went after his legal jump, he knew he had achieved something special. When his distance was measured at 8.36m, he was in cloud nine and he could not control his excitement.

However, there were a couple of other jumpers, who had a chance of overtaking him in the final round after his last attempt was done. But no one could even come close to that, including Tentoglou, who gave his best in the final attempt.

Tentoglou’s reaction after the jump narrated the entire story. He crouched down and just stared at the floor as it meant he had to settle for silver.

Talking about disappointment, India’s Sreeshankar could not bring his A game at Oregon. He could not even come close to his personal best of 8.36m. His best in the competition did not come in the final, but in qualification, where he managed 8m.
