What is needed for India to advance to the semis – A win for India will guarantee them a place in the semi-final of the competition, no matter what happens in the other game between England and Bangladesh. However, a defeat could see India pack their bags and depart early.

Rain could benefit India – South Africa had their encounter against West Indies abandoned due to rain, and if rain once again plays its part it could help India qualify by virtue of better NRR as compared to West Indies.

Defending champions still alive – After a dismal start to the campaign, England found their way back as they now have six points and face already eliminated Bangladesh. A win will definitely guarantee them a place in semis while rain could also see them make the final four. The only way they get eliminated is if they lose by a big margin and end up having poor NRR than India. A defeat could also see England qualify if India lose to South Africa.

West Indies seek help from South Africa – The only way West Indies can qualify for the semi-final will be if South Africa beat India or Bangladesh beat England, the latter looks improbable prospect on the form. A rain abandoned scenario in any of the two matches or both could see West Indies face elimination.

New Zealand need a miracle of sorts – Technically and mathematically, hosts New Zealand still have a chance of making it to the semis. However, that chance remains very slim and outside as they will need both India and England to lose their encounters by a huge margin and gain ground on NRR to qualify. This prospect though looks highly unlikely, provided England will face minnows Bangladesh.
