India won the match in a crushing manner against Sri Lanka, by 8 wickets. They are now the champions of the women’s Asia cup 2022 for the 7th time. After winning the toss and batting first, Sri Lanka were never in the game and were able to put up only 65 runs on the scoreboard. Renuka Singh was the pick among Indian bowlers with 3/5 in 3 overs. Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Sneh Rana clinched a couple of wickets each as well. Smriti Mandhana’s quick-paced 51* off 25 ensured that India reached the given target in just 8.3 overs.

After the win, Women in Blue greeted fans all around the stadium.

While later, Team India lifted the trophy with full enthusiasm and joy in their voices.

The Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur was beaming as she accepted the trophy. As the team was taking pictures in front of the ‘champions’ hoarding, the trophy was then given to Meghna Singh. The festivities immediately started when Harmanpreet sauntered around the corner. Then the coaching staff joined the group, and there were numerous smiles and poses for cameras.

The T20 World Cup is only 4 months away, thus this victory is a much-needed boost to the Indian team’s confidence after finishing second at the Commonwealth Games. The biggest takeaway for the Harmanpreet side has to be how different players stood up in different matches. There is still much to be done by Sri Lanka in the batting department. Chamari Athapaththu, by her own high standards, had a very disappointing tournament.
