As per Cricbuzz, BCCI have offered a lucrative 80-20 revenue share scheme for the first five years to WIPL franchises. The ITT mentions that the formula will be gradually shifted to 60-40 from 2028 for another half-decade. 10 years on in 2033, a 50-50 margin will be set between the teams and their regulator BCCI.

The terms are no different from what was offered to IPL franchises back in the day. 15 years of inception, the IPL currently operates on a 50-50 model with all franchises involved. The central revenue will consist of income from sponsors and media rights. The WIPL media rights auction is set for January 16, with all major players – Star, Sony, and Zee involved.

There is also some fierce competition for the franchise auction. The likes of CSK, PBKS and RR have already expressed their interest in owning a WIPL franchise and have picked up tender documents. DC and KKR are also credited with an interest, while a host of other parties are also in the process.

Interested parties will be required to have a net worth of Rs 1000 crores. The BCCI had a similar clause when selling two new IPL teams – Ahmedabad and Lucknow respectively. The BCCI expects a major windfall from the franchise auction.

As per the ITT timeline, all interested parties can seek clarifications till January 13. The Tender is available to purchase until January 21. January 23rd is the date for the due diligence and verification process and two days later, on January 25, the franchises will be allotted through a closed bidding process. Unlike the media rights, the teams will be allotted to the highest, not the best bidder.

“We’ve applied to buy the bid document. Now we’ll have to find out about the economics of it. We are interested. If CSK doesn’t have a women’s team, it may not look good. We’d like to promote women’s cricket,” CSK CEO Kashi Viswanathan told TOI.

“We are picking the bid document,” confirmed Rajasthan Royals chairman Ranjit Barthakur.
