Novak Djokovic produced a returning masterclass to clinch a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3) victory against Nick Kyrgios in the summit clash at Wimbledon to claim his fourth consecutive crown at the grass-court major. With the victory, the 35-year-old has also equalled Pete Sampras’ record of seven Wimbledon titles and is one Grand Slam title behind Rafael Nadal’s record of 22 major crowns.
It was a double delight for Djokovic as the victory has come on the day of his eighth marriage anniversary with wife Jelena. Speaking after winning the title at the Centre Court, Novak looked at his wife Jelena and said, ‘So darling, happy Anniversary’, before pointing to his trophy and adding: ‘This is my present.’
Later in the night, Djokovic celebrated his victory by attending the Wimbledon Champions dinner along with his wife and celebrated his championship victory as well as his wedding anniversary in a subdued manner.
Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios along with his girlfriend Costeen Hatzi and sister Halimah went to a London Nighclub and celebrated his best-ever performance in a Grand Slam event in a grand manner. Kyrgios was seen sipping a bottle of beer of his own and appeared to be enjoying the night. During the match, Kyrgios was laser-focussed on the job at hand and won the first set. However he lost control in the subsequent sets and was seen fuming at the umpires, crowd and also towards his own team as he lost the next three sets to finish as runner-up.
On the eve of the final, both the finalists had a friendly public chat on social media as they agreed to meet for dinner after the final on the condition that the winner should pay the bill.
