Will Lionel Messi play in Inter Miami’s US Open Cup Final? Tata Martino provides big update
Will Lionel Messi take part in the US Open Cup Final? Tata Martino delivers an important update on his availability for Inter Miami’s match against the Houston Dynamo.
Inter Miami could “take a risk” on forward Lionel Messi in Wednesday’s US Open Cup final against Houston Dynamo. The MLS outfit manager Gerardo Martino conveyed ahead of the Inter Miami vs Houston Dynamo US Open Cup Final. Messi was forced off after 37 minutes against Toronto FC with an injury and sat out Monday’s draw at Orlando City.
“We will decide tomorrow based on how he’s feeling,” Martino said.
Messi was suffering from an old injury, according to Martina, but he may play in the final. Although defender Jordi Alba is questionable. Messi, 36, joined the MLS franchise in July when his contract with PSG expired.
Martino added: “Here, there are questions. The player, the US Open Cup final, and what comes after. These three scenarios have to be evaluated; it is not just about the next game. Risk is always there, but we try to decrease the margin of risk.’
“If it wasn’t a final, we wouldn’t take any risk, but because it is a final, there is a chance we take that risk.” he concluded.
Lionel Messi has already helped Inter Miami win the League Cup, defeating Nashville SC in the final on penalties. Inter Miami have not lost any of Messi’s 12 appearances, in which he has scored 11 goals and contributed five assists.
