Cricket West Indies has come forward to deny all the reports and declared ‘they are malicious’
“I view this as a malicious attack on the credibility of the West Indies Captain, designed to sow division within our team that has just recorded three very impressive T20I performances against very strong opponents, including two outstanding wins and one heroic comeback to get within one run of victory. Rift in West-Indies Team? What is being ciruclated in Media? It has been alleged in certain sections of media that ‘Jamaican all-rounder Odean Smith is being victimised & ostracized by Captain Kieron Pollard & Coach Phil Simmons’
Radio Jamaica has reported that ‘there will be a meeting to discuss issues over team management and their role in external player affairs between members of Cricket West Indies and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) on Friday over the issue’
The meeting which will include the CWI vice president, Director of Cricket and team management will discuss a complaint by WIPA over the treatment of Smith.
Meanwhile West Indies head coach Phil Simmons has sought to clear the air on reports & Cricket West Indies has released a official statement around the matter.
“Cricket West Indies (CWI) is aware that earlier today, voice notes were circulated on social media, and in sections of the regional broadcast media, suggesting that there is a rift within the West Indies Senior Men’s team. Contrary to the unsubstantiated statements, containing unfounded and mischievous allegations, Cricket West Indies (CWI) is satisfied that there is no discord between the Team Captain and any member of the West Indies team”, the statement by CWI read.
West-Indies Tour of India – West Indies vs England Series: West Indies lead England 2-1 in the five-match Betway T20 International Series.
The fourth and fifth matches of the series will be played at the same venue on Saturday and Sunday.
