President Mauricio Sulaiman’s statement on the WBC transgender category

Sulaiman told The Telegraph, “We will issue a global call for people interested in 2023. We will set up the protocols, start a consultation, and maybe develop a league and a tournament.” “This is the right time to do it, and we’re doing it for inclusiveness and safety. We have pioneered women’s boxing regulations, so thanks to what we’re putting in place, there will never be a risk of a man fighting a woman.”

“Regardless of gender transition, a man facing a woman in boxing must never be permitted. There should be no room for doubt in this situation, and we want to approach it openly and wisely. No transgender person, whether a man or a woman, will ever be permitted to challenge someone born with a different gender.”

Sulaiman asserts his suggested system is the best method to make the sport more inclusive because the stakes are higher in combat sports due to the possible bodily hazard for competitors. “We are establishing a set of rules and institutions so that transgender boxing may occur, as they fully deserve to if they want to box,” Sulaiman continued. “We don’t know how many boxers there are, but in 2023, a universal registry will be opened, allowing us to learn more about them and work backward from there.”
