In Episode 1, there was little conflict between the coaches; instead, most of the time was devoted to forming McGregor and Chandler’s teams. Only a friendly introduction and a few half-hearted taunts were exchanged between them.
Eight lightweights and eight bantamweights make up this season’s roster, which is further separated into two groups: prospects (fighters who haven’t yet competed in the UFC) and veterans (fighters who have. McGregor and Chandler were instructed to select their teams by grouping, a departure from the standard TUF draught in which combatants prepare for the coaches before being selected one at a time.
Lee Hammond, Nate Jennerman, Aaron McKenzie, and Landon Quinones were the four lightweight prospects whom McGregor selected after winning the coin toss and going first. As a result, Kurt Holobaugh, Austin Hubbard, Jason Knight, and Roosevelt Roberts—four light veterans—automatically moved to Chandler.

At the end of the episode, a small clip was shown with Islam Makhachev where Conor could be seen kicking a boy, though not a contender for TUF 31. Fans have reacted to the video shared on YouTube with “that titanium shin bone coming in full force and velocity”, while some wrote, “Conor looks sharp man. Imagine he comes out with red trucks”.
Conor had suffered an injury on his legs in his last fight against Dustin Poirier, that led him to taking a long break from UFC. Finally, Conor is making his return as a coach against Michael Chandler in TUF 31. Later he is also scheduled to fight against his opponent.
