The most ever issued in a single Europa League match, Taylor brandished 14 yellow cards to Roma and Sevilla players throughout the tense contest. Additionally, he rendered a number of controversial rulings, including awarding Sevilla a penalty then retracting his judgement and denying Roma a spot-kick due to a possible handball. Gonzalo Montiel of Sevilla missed his initial effort at the game-winning penalty kick, and Taylor controversially let him to attempt again.

The ire has also spread throughout the team, with a sizable contingent of Roma fans focusing their wrath on Taylor after spotting him in the airport. Angrily chanting crowds can be seen in disturbing video that was shared on social media. This compelled police personnel to quickly bring Taylor into a separate area.

One footage appeared to show the cameraman grabbing Taylor’s backpack. Taylor may be seen squeezing past the crowd from another perspective, possibly surrounded by his family. One supporter in a white t-shirt approaches the official and shouts at him while holding up his phone before being pushed away by a Taylor supporter. Then a man is covered in liquid as it is sprayed in their way. When the party was finally ushered through the door, one of the officers managed to capture the flying chair in midair.

In his post-game news conference, Mourinho again criticised Taylor, stating that he “seemed Spanish” after waving eight yellow cards to Roma players, including two for players who were not even on the field. The former coach of Manchester United and Chelsea is looking towards a UEFA suspension due to the remarks.
