Virat Kohli was amongst the many left in awe and hit back at Ronaldo’s critics on social media. The 38-year-old has been in the eye of criticism for his conduct following his comments on Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag. Messi winning the World Cup further swayed he debate, and Ronaldo’s deal to Saudi all but confirming his decline.

“Still doing it at the highest level at 38. The football experts sitting and criticizing him every week for attention are conveniently quiet now that he’s put in this kind of performance against one of the top clubs in the world. And he was apparently finished,” Virat Kohli wrote on Instagram.

Ronaldo was a constant menace and earned a penalty when goalkeeper Keylor Navas collided with him. Ronaldo, who had a huge red bruise on his cheek as a result of the impact, lifted himself up to calmly convert the penalty kick and tie the game. Earlier, he levelled the game just before halftime, slamming home a rebound after Sergio Ramos missed a simple clearance.
