Virat Kohli resigns: The Indian cricket fraternity was in for a shock as India’s Test captain Virat Kohli, suddenly announced his decision to step down from captaincy with immediate effect today. Follow Insidesport.in for more updates.

The decision comes after India lost the Test series against South Africa 1-2  at Cape Town yesterday.

Kohli took over the captaincy from MS Dhoni midway through the Australian tour back in 2014-15. He took India to the top of the Test table and won the ICC Test mace for a record five times.

As expected, former cricketers expressed their shock after the sudden announcement from the 32-year old. Let’s take a look at some of the reactions.

Former India batsman Wasim Jaffer congratulated Kohli for his successful reign as Test captain.

BCCI congratulated Kohli for his successful tenure as a skipper of the Indian team.

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer  congratulated Kohli for having created a wonderful legacy.

Aakash Chopra expressed his shock by tweeting ‘Didn’t see it coming’.

Virender Sehwag called him as one of the most successful captain in the world.

Former India Head Coach, Ravi Shastri called it a sad day for him.

India’s former fielding coach R Sridhar, called this decision as a shocker and congratulated Kohli for creating habits that turned into culture.

Yuvraj Singh termed it a remarkable journey and credited Kohli for playing like a champion each time he stepped out as skipper.

 Harbhajan Singh too expressed his disappointment by tweeting

 Suresh Raina too expressed his shock with this sudden decision and went on to say that he hopes that he continues to shine as a player.

Parthiv Patel said that Kohli can take pride on his accomplishments as Test skipper.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah congratulated Kohli for his tremendous tenure as captain.

Yusuf Pathan reacted to the news by saying it was not something that he wished to read.

Irfan Pathan tweeted that Kohli’s name will always be remembered for the kind of impact that he has made as a captain.

 Pragyan Ojha called Kohli as someone who added a different value to the team as skipper.

RP Singh reacted to the news by tweeting that Kohli must be prpud of what he has achieved as skipper.
